Storytime 2025-02-16: It’s Black History Month
I was going to start The Neverending Story this Sunday, but I found out that many of the UK folks will be gone for an event the whole weekend. So I’m delaying it until next Sunday, and in the meantime, I’m doing something I think is important. I usually keep politics out of storytime, but occasionally I can’t.
I have a lot of books about important Black figures who shaped American history, and I’m going to read some of them, in honor of Black History Month. And it is still BHM in the USA, no matter who’s President and no matter what some app on the Internet says. I’m about as white as it’s possible to be, but we in the USA now live in times when the government wants to erase information they don’t like from public discourse, including the very existence of LGBTQ+ people (especially trans people), the advances in rights women have made, and the contributions that African-Americans have made to American history.
They (you know who They are) think they can change history by hiding the parts of it they don’t like. They want the truth buried. I don’t think they deserve to get what they want, and this is a little way I can not give in to them. I want them to know that when they mess with some of us, they mess with all of us. Besides, these books are neat, interesting, and educational, and I haven’t read them for a while.
